Put more fruit and veg on your menu

Eating enough fruit and veg is essential for our health and wellbeing; they provide us with essential vitamins and minerals to function at our best – we probably all know that.  But….very few of us eat the recommended 5 portions a day (a portion is roughly the amount that fits in the palm of your hand). In fact, 80% of us don’t eat enough, and this is having a huge impact on the health of the nation.

But that’s not all!

You may have noticed (or heard about) a rise in the number of people reducing their meat and wanting to eat more veg-based dishes – flexitarians, meat-reducers, demitarians….. call them what you will, this increasing customer base is willing to experiment and spend money on good, exciting and delicious veg-based meals.  Don’t miss out!

Veg Cities is a campaign calling on local areas to coordinate activity and action to help make it easier for all of us to eat more fruit and veg.  Restaurants and cafes are adding more fresh fruit and veg to their menus, schools and local communities are growing more for their families, companies are advertising the good stuff more, and we want to educate people about the benefits of eating more fresh fruit and vegetables.

So, how do you get involved?

  • Take Action - to grow, cook, sell, serve or save veg from waste.

  • Run a Campaign - coordinate a VEG CITIES campaign in your local area to promote more veg.  There are loads of ideas to do this, so please get in touch to find out more!

  • Volunteer - Whether it’s helping out at events, or convincing others to go VEG CITIES, local campaigns are keen to get volunteers to help out. There are no obligations, but now and again, you may get an email to see if you can help out.
